Questions About These Reports

Short answers to the most common questions I get about the Living Line documents and surname micro-reports.

A micro-report is a focused 1–3 page brief on a single surname or family cluster. It highlights earliest appearances in the records, district placement (ex: Kespukwitk, K’jipuktuk, Chedabucto), and any signs of misclassification in labels like “Black,” “Coloured,” or “Free Negro.”

They are for Nova Scotia families who suspect their Native ancestry was erased or renamed in the paper trail, as well as students, researchers, and community workers who need structured evidence from 1760–1940.

All surname micro-reports are private by default. Only you receive your file unless you explicitly ask for it to be shared in a public index or future Living Line publications.

You can email livinglinefoundation@outlook.com with your surname(s), the community your grandparents or great-grandparents came from, and any dates or documents you already have. I’ll confirm the request and let you know when your micro-report is ready.

Yes. You can cite the Living Line documents as independent research reports authored by Darius Simmons, Living Line Archives, with the year of publication (for example: “Lake Loon Lineage Brief, 2025”). If you need a citation format, contact me and I can provide it.
